Three Mentors, One Grateful Heart

Hello!

Do you have mentors or people you look up to for advice, live by example, or to support you? I have 3 amazing people who I would call my mentors for life. These 3 people support me in life, give me wonderful advice, but also show me how to be a godly woman in today’s world. They mean the world to me and I love them all dearly. I would like to introduce them to you.

Emily Jane, or as I know her, grandma. This wonderful person is not here in the physical world anymore but when she was, she showed me so much. Grandma lived in a small town, in a small house. Everyone knew who she was. She was this light and joy even on her last few days. She knew how to comfort, love, and make you smile. I have so many memories of going to her house and spending time with her and grandpa. We would play games, watch movies, go to the park, and nap. Grandma was a very godly woman. She was always volunteering, cleaning, and playing the piano at church. Grandma was also known for helping the neighborhood cats. She is actually the reason why I love cats so much. I remember a time where it was storming at her house. The back of the couch faced a big living room window that you could see out to the front lawn and the street. I remember leaning on the back of the couch and being scared of the storm and grandma leaning next to me. She told me something that I will never forget. When it is thundering, lightening, and raining, God is washing away all the bad and the ugly. When the sun shines after the storm, that means it’s a fresh start. When I see the sparkle on the ground from the rain, that is God laying out all the good and the joy. As an adult, that may sound silly but when I was little, it comforted me more than I realized. Even though she passed, I can still see and feel her kindness and love to this day. She has taught me to always have a kind heart, no matter the situation. She taught me to volunteer where I can to show the light of Jesus. She has taught me through my actions, I can share the story of Jesus.

Judi, or as I know her, grandma. She is this beautiful wonderful human being. She has taught me to love and trust in God. I remember going to grandma’s house during summer breaks, Christmas, and Thanksgiving. I remember snuggling next to her and watching movies and most importantly hallmark movies. She is the one who got me into loving hallmark, cheesy love stories. No one knows this unless you are a part of my family but I have a room in grandma’s house that is know as Breana’s room. It’s painted a soft light pink color and was my favorite room to stay in when I visited. During Christmas, she would have her house so beautiful and had the battery operated stuffed animals that would play a song. I remember always wanting to play with them and see which one she got for that year. Grandma and Grandpa have been married for 65 years. Grandma has taught me what love looks like in marriage and how to have a godly marriage. Every time we come over and as long as I can remember, grandma has always talked about God and her trust in Him. Grandma has taught me trust in God no matter what the situation is and to love Him. She has taught me and proven to me how to lean on God. She is probably the strongest woman I know. I love hearing her stories and love being able to share memories with her. I love you grandma!

Jennifer, or as I know her, Mom. I know that we all are each bias on who is the best amazing mom ever, but my mom is the best, most amazing mom out there. Those who know her will agree, she has the kindest, sweetest heart. She is soft spoken, shares her love, and her heart is full of God. Also, for those who know my mom and I, we look very similar and even sound the same on the phone. I have just heard in the last month that I have the same laugh as mom. She has taught me so many things in life and I know has so many more to teach me as life goes on. She is my #1 mentor in life. She has taught me how to love each person and meet that person where they are at. She has taught me how to put myself in that person’s shoes and listen to their story. I have definitely learned my cleaning skills and hosting skills from her. I posted on my Facebook for mother’s day about this but it is so true. My mom is the example of patience and peace. God made my mom to have so much patience in life. I hope that one day, I can be as patient as she is. She also give out this peace when you are with her. I can tell you so much more about her. She has taught me how to lean on God and pray. Everyday, she makes time to spend time with God. She is in His Word and praying. I pray that I can be as discipled as she is. I cannot wait to see what else she can teach me. I love you mom!

These 3 women have made the biggest impact on my life. I encourage you to sit down and think about 3 people in your life that have made the biggest or is currently making the biggest impact on your life. When you have figured it out, I would encourage you to reach out to them by letter or phone call and talk to them. We all have very busy lives and if you are like me, we have the intention to take a break and reach out to these people but we forget. My goal to you is to write/call these people this week. Ask them how they are doing and when the time is right, thank them for being such an amazing person. Ask them who are their mentors and encourage them to do the same thing.

Created for a purpose.
